Occupancy based energy management
Energex Inc develops technology to reduce the unnecessary energy consumption that occurs in rooms when they are empty. The system consists of a passive infrared sensor and an energy management unit interfaced to a room's thermostat. Through the detection of human thermal body signatures, the system identifies when a room becomes empty, and after a predetermined length of time, adjusts the temperature and lighting settings to 'conservation mode.' Once the room is re-occupied, the initial lighting and temperature settings are quickly restored. Over time, this leads to a considerable reduction in energy consumption, utility costs, and system wear and tear.
